The National Unity Platform (NUP) party has declared that it will not join People\u2019s Front for Transition (PFT) headed by Dr Kizza Besigye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
NUP states that it has no problem with the front for as long as it\u2019s pushing in the same direction of ending President Museveni\u2019s continued stay in power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIf we are all pushing towards the same direction, I don\u2019t think there is need for us to join People Front for transition but you remember that NUP had been championing the unity of forces of change, it\u2019s not really about people at the top but the people of Uganda uniting in furthering of the struggle against the dictatorship,\u201d said NUP\u2019s Secretary General, David Lewis Rubongoya during a news conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The party also dismissed reports that it has clashed with the recently unveiled political pressure group by four-time presidential candidate, Rtd Col Dr Kizza Besigye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Besigye and his allies from six political parties last week unveiled a new political pressure group, PFT and there have since been numerous social media reports of bickering between the new group and NUP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rubongoya said any group whose initiatives are geared towards ending what he called a dictatorship in Uganda is their ally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs NUP, we have been championing the unity of forces of change. We wrote to all the parties and we continue to pursue unity. But this is not about us as leaders, it\u2019s about you as Ugandans, each has a responsibility to redeem our country,\u201d Rubongoya said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rubongoya said their approaches may differ, but both NUP and PFT have a common goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
NUP deputy president Lina Zedriga re-echoed their demands for the release of political prisoners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These include members of parliament Muhammad Ssegirinya and Allan Ssewanyana of Kawempe North and Makindye West constituencies respectively.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
