The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga has urged the government to work hand in hand with the opposition for both economic and social development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mayiga made the remarks as a team of MPs led by the Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga paid him a courtesy call as they launched a countrywide tour to popularise their legislative agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mayiga said the shadow government should not be viewed as a challenge but rather a source of alternative development and better programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“In my opinion the major task of the shadow cabinet is to fill those gaps that may have been left hanging in the government programmes. I think it is important for the government and the shadow cabinet to move together in a number of areas,\u201d he noted<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For instance, Mayiga said that the Leader of Opposition should be working very closely with government in areas of education, health and the fight against COVID-19 and agree on the measures adopted to curb the spread of the virus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIf that were done, I think it will be every easy for the country to overcome the challenges caused by the COVID-19. I urge as we start a culture of sitting down and listening to one another with neural respect not that the people in the opposition should adopt the their ideologies or even objectives but for the purpose of each side {government and opposition} to learn about the programme each side has,\u201c he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mpuuga noted that they intend to visit all traditional\/cultural institutions given that they are the major stakeholders in the affairs of this country, and seek their views on how best they want Uganda to be governed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe believe that the kingdoms we are going to visit in the next couple of months are the owners of the country called Uganda and they must at all-time be consulted,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
