Police have so far apprehended 15 suspects in line with the murders in the greater Masaka region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the Police spokesperson Fred Enanga, security agencies are trying their best to ensure that all the suspects behind the murders are arrested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking to the media at Naguru Police headquarters, Enanga said preliminary investigations indicate that there are 3 cells of organized criminal gangs that are terrorizing the districts of Masaka and Lwengo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The machete welding gangs reportedly have been dumping leaflets after the murders threatening to attack people in Lwengo from house to house and are reportedly now targeting 35 people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police explained that locals in these areas have concealed information fearing for their dear lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Enanga has advised people with elderly relatives in Masaka and Lwengo districts living in isolation to relocate them to safer place in the meantime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“It’s almost five weeks since these murders started. They have been attacking the elderly, and other vulnerable people found walking beyond curfew,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He further explained that the assailants move on motorcycles and vehicles<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Our joint team continues to pursue important clues characteristic of these assailants, for example, dropping leaflets warning residents that they are going to attack them,†he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We are looking at engaging the relatives of the most vulnerable, the elderly. We want to come up with a protection arrangement for them, especially those staying alone,”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
