As tension keep on increasing in the greater Masaka, Dr. Stella Nyanzi, a political activist has started organising peaceful demonstration against the unending murders of unarmed innocent civilians in Uganda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
2 people were hacked to death over the weakened and unvaried report indicates that another person was also killed last night bringing the death toll in Greater Masaka to 26 in one month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Internal Affairs Minister Gen David Muhoozi is expected in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nyanzi said that she is appalled at the increasing numbers of murders by hacking to death with machetes in Masaka district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I am much more appalled by the state of apathy and resignation among Ugandans who are so scared of the brutal arm of the state that they can no longer exercise their constitutional right to peacefully demonstrate against the deaths,†she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“And so, as a woman who hails from Masaka district, I have started organising a peaceful demonstration against the unending murders of unarmed innocent civilians in Uganda. Who will join me in this peaceful protest? Who will resist this insufficiency of the state security organizations?” she queried.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last week, Grace Akullo, the director of Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) said that they had dispatched a team of investigators to probe the root cause of the resurgence of the mysterious killings in Masaka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
CID spokesperson, Charles Twine said the recent attacks are driven by land conflicts, domestic violence, witchcraft and isolated cases of robberies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He noted that they have identified 4 cases that look to be the work of organised criminals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Opposition MPs have asked the government to deploy security personnel in the region so as to bring an end to the killings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The MPs led by the Leader of Opposition in Parliament (LoP), Matthias Mpuuga said that they have camped in the region to find solutions to the spate of murders in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mpuuga said that failure by the security personnel to heighten deployment, they will ask communities to take on traditional methods of securing themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He noted that security agencies have asked for more time to implement their security plan in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
