The leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has said president Museveni has not only destroyed the nation, but also distinguished itself in destroying careers and reputations of great military officers like the fallen Deputy IGP Maj Gen Paul Lokech.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The death of Gen Lokech on Saturday morning shocked so many people but according to post mortem he died of blood clot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement, Kyagulanyi praised Lokech for having a great military career but said that it was tarnished in the last eight months of his life the day president Museveni appointed him as deputy IGP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cGen. Museveni, afraid to his skin of an impending election defeat, and well aware of the kind of rigging he was plotting to do, decided to deploy Gen. Paul Lokech to stop any attempt of the people of Uganda to rise up and reclaim their democratic rights. Shortly after, another former Commander of the Ugandan Contingent in Somalia, Maj. Gen. Kayanja Muhanga was deployed as overall head of operations in Kampala. Gen. Museveni boasted that he had deployed commandos from Somalia to neutralise the situation in Kampala,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kyagulanyi claimed that Museveni intentionally put Lokech in direct confrontation with the citizens of Uganda where many were arrested, tortured and killed during his tenure as deputy IGP especially after the November 2020 riots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI was placed under house arrest and an array of grave human rights violations took place. His last public assignment related to the arrest of persons suspected to have attacked Gen. Katumba Wamala recently. Several of the suspects were murdered during investigations. The images of the other suspects appearing before court with grave torture-marks are very fresh in our minds,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kyagulanyi said that it is very unfortunate that Gen. Lokech who by all accounts was a fine soldier had his good record spoiled by the regime just in the last eight months of his life president Museveni put him in direct confrontation with the citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI therefore join with the elders and leaders of Acholi sub-region as well as other concerned citizens of Uganda in their demand for an independent investigation into the cause of this death. Even as we make this demand, we know that the regime never allows any such thing to happen. Ultimately, most answers will come out when Museveni is long gone,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kyagulanyi urged all soldiers and police officers who are still alive to learn a lesson about this tragedy adding that one day we shall all be gone and what will remain is the memory of the work done.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
