{"id":25661,"date":"2021-08-09T12:43:49","date_gmt":"2021-08-09T09:43:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/?p=25661"},"modified":"2021-08-09T12:43:51","modified_gmt":"2021-08-09T09:43:51","slug":"foreign-ministers-meet-to-mend-kenya-somalia-ties","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/index.php\/2021\/08\/09\/foreign-ministers-meet-to-mend-kenya-somalia-ties\/","title":{"rendered":"Foreign Ministers Meet To Mend Kenya-Somalia Ties"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kenya and Somalia have agreed to co-operate to improve diplomatic, trade and other mutual ties between them following years of frosty relations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It follows a meeting of both countries\u2019 foreign ministers in Mogadishu over the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mfa.gov.so\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Joint-Communique-Somalia-Kenya.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">joint statement&nbsp;<\/a>released by the Somali foreign affairs ministry said they agreed to organise a meeting for a joint framework to discuss issues of mutual interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The areas include diplomatic relations, trade, education, agriculture, defence and security, tourism among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ministers also welcomed the return of respective ambassadors to Mogadishu and Nairobi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Somalia&#8217;s President Mohamed Abdullahi &#8220;Farmajo&#8221; Mohamed met the Kenyan foreign minister and welcomed the outcome of the talks and expressed his commitment to pursue peace and \u201cgood neighbourliness\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kenya and Somalia&#8217;s relations have been strained in recent years over Kenya\u2019s alleged interference in Mogadishu\u2019s domestic affairs as well over a maritime boundary dispute in the Indian Ocean among other issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>BBC  News<\/em><\/strong> <strong><em>Africa<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kenya and Somalia have agreed to co-operate to improve diplomatic, trade and other mutual ties between them following years of frosty relations.
