The government Chief Whip, Hon Thomas Tayebwa has threatened to fire NRM committee chairpersons over alleged corruption tendencies and poor performances during committee sittings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tayebwa made remarks while meeting the chairpersons and vice chairpersons of the Parliamentary committees, the role he said requires a lot of commitment, hard work and strategic leadership to deliver the expected results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said that his party has deployed spies within Parliament to put the culprits to book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He told the leaders that it is important to know that the main purpose of committees is to assist the August House in the performance of its functions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said this calls for technical expertise in order to fulfil this important mandate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s worth noting that the roles of each committee are set out in the Rules of Procedure of Parliament. I therefore invite you to execute this mandate with passion and desire to deliver what the NRM Party promised this country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He urged the Parliamentary Committees to offer strategic leadership, build teams, plan and coordinate committee works, manage the finances of the committee in line with the approved work plans, produce timely reports and speed up all the work in committees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn addition, as chairpersons and vice Chairpersons it\u2019s your responsibility to maintain order in committee proceedings. In all our work let\u2019s have integrity as we execute our roles in the committees. This will protect the image of Parliament as a whole and the Party. Let be at the forefront to fight corruption in our committees,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tayebwa said his office will develop a performance evaluation tool to be discussed with the members in their next meeting to assist in evaluation of the committee\u2019s performance in each session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis will help us to determine what works well and what could be improved on in our committees. Performance Evaluation reports will be discussed quarterly to pave way for improvement and address the performance gaps,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said as chairpersons and vice chairpersons, it\u2019s their duty to attend plenary and keep time in order to follow and contribute to the proceedings of the house especially to defend government position and the NRM party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLet\u2019s work together to avoid scenarios were there are two bills in Parliament which are addressing the same matter. They do not only waste resources but also time. Let us work together to avoid what happened with the succession (Amendment) Bill where the House had to deal with two bills on the same subject yet the mover was a member of the NRM,\u201d he guided.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
