The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, has challenged youth to utilize opportunities presented by information and communication technology to develop Uganda.<\/p>\n
Kadaga was addressing over 200 graduates from a computer literacy training that was conducted at Busoga High School in Kamuli district between 11th and 22nd December 2017. The Speaker challenged them to effectively and efficiently utilize their newly acquired skills, to create jobs.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith this knowledge you have acquired, you now have capital; you are no longer poor,\u201d said Kadaga.<\/p>\n
Citing examples from China, Kadaga noted that the biggest portion of budgetary funding was channeled to research and innovation, the reason why most of the technology like mobile phones used in Uganda and Africa, are made in China.<\/p>\n
The Speaker donated Kwese set-top boxes to the school and advised the students to utilize the equipment to follow up on current affairs in the country and the world. She also committed to speaking to the in-charge of Operation Wealth Creation on how to improve their activities in the district.<\/p>\n
Kamuli District Resident Commissioner, Moses Dumba, commended the youth graduates for being productive and up-to-date, and thanked the Speaker for lobbying for Kamuli district and Busoga region.<\/p>\n
Dumba advised the youth to be self-motivated in their work and dress appropriately to exude a decent image in society; as well as continue studying to grow their wealth of knowledge.<\/p>\n
Busoga High School Board Chairperson, Eng. Dr. Jimmy Muwuluke, made mention of the limited support from government, a trend which he said the Speaker had changed through her lobbying for financial and technical support.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Speaker has brought ICT home to us. The challenge is on you to apply the skills you have learnt,\u201d advised Eng. Muwuluke.<\/p>\n
According to the school headmistress Oliver Nambi, Uganda Communications Commission sampled Busoga High School to train students and locals in Kamuli district, which has been achieved so far with the MTN computer laboratory that is to be set up at the school.<\/p>\n
