The Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Jacob Oulanyah has advised lawmakers to read and understand the rules that govern the house if they are to have a fruitful term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Oulanyah made the remarks while addressing MPs on Monday on the first day of the their induction process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“You were given the Constitution and the Rules of Procedure. Read them and understand them. Rules must be set before the game and not during or after the game,” Oulanyah said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added, “Every MP has a right as that of any other Member of Parliament. You need to accord each other respect as a result of that equality.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Oulanyah also told the MPs that issues and not numbers will determine how parliament reaches decisions, adding that the majority, irrespective of political belonging will carry the day<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The will of the majority must carry. Majority is not necessarily the decision of the biggest party. Let us not think majorities and minorities is about parties. It will depend on the issue at hand. We process more business when the House is happy. We do less when the House is angry. The Deputy Speaker and I will try to make this a happy House,” Oulanyah said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
