{"id":23086,"date":"2021-04-14T07:06:36","date_gmt":"2021-04-14T04:06:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/?p=23086"},"modified":"2021-04-14T07:06:39","modified_gmt":"2021-04-14T04:06:39","slug":"un-experts-call-on-uganda-to-end-police-brutality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/index.php\/2021\/04\/14\/un-experts-call-on-uganda-to-end-police-brutality\/","title":{"rendered":"UN Experts Call on Uganda To End Police Brutality"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UN human rights experts have called on the Ugandan government to stop what they call a brutal crackdown on political opponents which began in the lead-up to January\u2019s disputed elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They urged the authorities to immediately investigate and prosecute all human rights violations, including allegations of extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrest and detention, enforced disappearance and torture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a report to the UN Human Rights Council they said several thousand people had been arrested and while some had been released, others were missing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Opposition supporters have alleged being tortured before appearing in military courts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Ugandan president, Yoweri Museveni, has described those arrested as criminals and terrorists.
