{"id":22892,"date":"2021-04-03T13:49:51","date_gmt":"2021-04-03T10:49:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/?p=22892"},"modified":"2021-04-03T13:49:54","modified_gmt":"2021-04-03T10:49:54","slug":"the-life-times-of-fallen-kampala-archbishop-cyprian-lwanga","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/index.php\/2021\/04\/03\/the-life-times-of-fallen-kampala-archbishop-cyprian-lwanga\/","title":{"rendered":"The Life &#038; Times Of Fallen Kampala Archbishop Cyprian Lwanga"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Kampala Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga passed away on Saturday, the Catholic Church in Uganda revealed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A statement issued on Saturday reveals that the Archbishop was found dead in his house on Saturday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>WHO WAS LWANGA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cyprian Lwanga was born on 19 January 1953 at Kyabakadde Village, in Naggalama Parish, in present-day&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mukono_District\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mukono District<\/a>&nbsp;in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Central_Region,_Uganda\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Buganda Region<\/a>&nbsp;of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Uganda\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Uganda<\/a>. This location lies in present-day&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Roman_Catholic_Diocese_of_Lugazi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lugazi Diocese<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He attended Kyabakadde Primary School. He entered Nyenga Seminary in 1964. Between 1972 and 1974, he studied at Katigondo National Major Seminary, in present-day&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kalungu_District\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kalungu District<\/a>. He then studied&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Theology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Theology<\/a>&nbsp;at Ggaba National Seminary, in Kampala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1979, he joined the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/University_of_Clermont-Ferrand\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">University of Clermont-Ferrand<\/a>\u00a0in France, were he studied administration and languages, with particular emphasis on administration. Later, he studied at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pontifical_University_of_the_Holy_Cross\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pontifical University of the Holy Cross<\/a>\u00a0in Rome, where in 1994, he earned a doctorate in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Canon_Law\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Canon Law<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>As priest<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was ordained a priest on 8 April 1978 at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rubaga_Cathedral\">Rubaga Cathedral<\/a>\u00a0by Cardinal\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Emmanuel_Nsubuga\">Emmanuel Kiwanuka Nsubuga<\/a>. He served as a priest of Kampala Archdiocese until 30 November 1996.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>As bishop<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was appointed first bishop of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Roman_Catholic_Diocese_of_Kasana%E2%80%93Luweero\">Diocese of Kasana-Luweero<\/a>\u00a0on 30 November 1996 and consecrated\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bishop\">bishop<\/a>\u00a0on 1 March 1997 at Kasana-Luweero, by Cardinal\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Emmanuel_Wamala\">Emmanuel Wamala<\/a>, Archbishop of Kampala, assisted by Bishop\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Joseph_B._Willigers\">Joseph Bernard Louis Willigers<\/a>, Bishop of Jinja and Bishop\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paul_Lokiru_Kalanda\">Paul Lokiru Kalanda<\/a>, Bishop of Fort Portal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On 19 August 2006, he was appointed the third Archbishop of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Roman_Catholic_Archdiocese_of_Kampala\">Archdiocese of Kampala<\/a>\u00a0and was installed as the third Archbishop of Kampala on 30 September 2006 at Rubaga Cathedral, succeeding\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Emmanuel_Wamala\">Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala<\/a>, who resigned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On 2 February 2020 Lwanga issued a decree that Catholics in the archdiocese of Kampala could only receive&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Eucharist_in_the_Catholic_Church#Receiving_the_Eucharist\">Holy Communion<\/a>&nbsp;on the tongue and not on the hand.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kampala Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga passed away on Saturday, the Catholic Church in Uganda revealed.
