Uganda’s Supreme Court on Friday allowed former Presidential Candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine’s request to withdraw his petition challenging the presidential results of the Janaury poll.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week, Bobi Wine instructed his lawyers to withdraw the petition he ledged in the Supreme Court challenging the presidential election results that he lost to President Yoweri Museveni.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the Supreme Court granted his wish on Friday arguing that since Museveni had no objection to the withdrawal, the court was left with no choice but to grant Bobi’s request.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cConsidering that the respondents had no objection to the application for withdrawal, leave is hereby granted to the petitioner as prayed. The petition stands withdrawn,\u201d Justice Stella Amoko Arach read the ruling on behalf of the other justices of the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision on costs shall be given in a more detailed ruling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In announcing his decision, Wine said authorities had blocked his attempt to present a case, citing the police lockdown of his party\u2019s offices, and the military denying access to his lawyers and officials of his National Unity Platform party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also accused the Supreme Court of rejecting as many as 200 affidavits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision by the Supreme Court also means attempts by another former presidential candidate, Willy Mayambala have fallen flat. The pastor had sought to inherit the petition from Bobi Wine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
