{"id":21700,"date":"2021-02-17T11:57:05","date_gmt":"2021-02-17T08:57:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/?p=21700"},"modified":"2021-02-17T12:00:46","modified_gmt":"2021-02-17T09:00:46","slug":"why-bobi-wine-wants-cj-2-other-judges-to-withdraw-from-hearing-supreme-court-petition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/index.php\/2021\/02\/17\/why-bobi-wine-wants-cj-2-other-judges-to-withdraw-from-hearing-supreme-court-petition\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Bobi Wine Wants CJ, 2 Other Judges To Withdraw From Hearing Supreme Court Petition"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ugandan opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, wants the chief justice to recuse himself from hearing a petition challenging the re-election of President Yoweri Museveni.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bobi Wine accuses Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo of bias because of his close association to the president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The opposition politician also wants two other supreme court judges to recuse themselves from the petition on similar grounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The three judges have not responded to the accusations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chief Justice Owiny-Dollo was President Museveni&#8217;s lawyer in 2006, according to the Nile Post website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Justice Mike Chibita was Mr Museveni&#8217;s private secretary on legal affairs, while Justice Ezekiel Muhanguzi is a relative of Security Minister Elly Tumwine, according to local media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bobi Wine argues that the three cannot hear the petition without bias.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Museveni won a sixth elected term last month.
