The Uganda government has announced the restoration of social media that was blocked in a national shutdown of internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the state minister for ICT, Peter Ogwang, the shutdown which was implemented on the eve of the January 14 presidential and parliamentary elections, was intended to keep the country safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Internet and Social media services have been fully restored. We apologize for the inconveniences caused, but it was for the security of our country. Let’s be constructive, NOT destructive consumers\/users of social media,” Ogwang tweeted on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After the results of the elections were decalred, government partially restored internet with social media sites unable to function.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, Wednesday’s move means Ugandans will no longer need Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) to access social media that had become the norm<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
