{"id":21419,"date":"2021-02-09T10:44:36","date_gmt":"2021-02-09T07:44:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/?p=21419"},"modified":"2021-02-09T10:44:50","modified_gmt":"2021-02-09T07:44:50","slug":"ebola-contact-tracing-starts-in-dr-congo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/index.php\/2021\/02\/09\/ebola-contact-tracing-starts-in-dr-congo\/","title":{"rendered":"Ebola Contact Tracing Starts In DR Congo"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Health officials in the Democratic Republic of Congo have started tracing those who came in contact with a patient who died from Ebola.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 42-year-old woman died last Wednesday in North-Kivu province just two days after developing symptoms of the disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A team of epidemiologists are on the ground investigating the case and authorities have announced that the disinfection of the sites visited by the patient was underway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The World Health Organization (WHO) has already identified more than 70 contact cases of the disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The country had three months ago declared the end of its 11th Ebola outbreak that killed 55 people<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Health Minister, Eteni Longondo, says doctors are determining whether the latest cases are from a new strain of the disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also called for calm in the affected community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 10th Ebola epidemic, and the deadliest to hit the country, killed more than 2,200 people between August 2018 and June 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What is Ebola?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Ebola is a virus that initially causes sudden fever, intense weakness, muscle pain and a sore throat<\/li><li>It progresses to vomiting, diarrhoea and both internal and external bleeding<\/li><li>People are infected when they have direct contact through broken skin, or the mouth and nose, with the blood, vomit, faeces or bodily fluids of someone with Ebola<\/li><li>Patients tend to die from dehydration and multiple organ failure<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>BBC News Africa<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Health officials in the Democratic Republic of Congo have started tracing those who came in contact with a patient who died from Ebola.
