The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party top lawyers have shared theory thoughts on the party’s preparedness for the election petition filed by Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Monday, Bobi Wine has filed a legal challenge in the country\u2019s Supreme Court, seeking cancellation of the results of last month\u2019s presidential election that handed incumbent Yoweri Museveni the victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe want the poll cancelled and repeated,\u201d said George Musisi, lawyer for Bobi Wine\u2019s National Unity Platform (NUP), on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere was outright ballot-stuffing, there was intimidation of NUP agents and supporters, some were arrested on the eve of the election, there was pre-ticking of ballots.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, NRM’s Legal Director Oscar Kihika believes the law is already against the petitioners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“To be honest, the law is so much against the petitioners. The grounds are always constant but the facts are always different. There is always a common line; intimidation, violence,” Kihika said on Tuesday while appearing on a local TV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added, “I feel sorry for the petitions, it is only 20% of the evidence collected that are useful, the rest are ‘Wolokoso’ (hearsay).”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His colleague, Deputy Attorney General, Jackson Kafuuzi said, “We have received the summons and according to my experience, these issues are always about evidence especially on the part of the petitioners. We are ready. You can file a thousand allegations but all that matters is the substance in there. If there is no substance then it will all be time-wasting.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bobi Wine has accused Museveni of staging a \u201ccoup\u201d in the election and has previously urged his supporters to protest the result through non-violent means.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
