Dr Kizza Besigye, the former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Honcho has criticised government for failure to gear up the fight against COVID-19 in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his statement shortly after the death a government official, Besigye said with government response towards the fight of the pandemic being in disarray, it’s high time for Ugandans to take care of their lives ahead of the general polls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDeaths due to COVID-19 in Uganda are escalating. The dead include prominent political, religious, business & military leaders. The latest and most senior government official to die is the 2nd Deputy Premier, Ali Kirunda Kivejinja,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He prayed and sympathized with the bereaved families and communities adding that most health care centres don’t have even the basic equipment to handle the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the four-time presidential candidate, it\u2019s necessary to reflect on what\u2019s happening and what needs to be done as this year of double, double inches to a close.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Our reality is that we now have the highest level of COVID-19 transmission-large scale uncontrollable community transmission. Uganda\u2019s huge Health Sector problems; pervasive corruption and bad governance; mistakes in COVID19 response, including holding general elections, can\u2019t be changed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Besigye also highlighted a number of steps that should be taken by Ugandans to ensure their safety during this festive season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He urged Ugandans to avoid getting or spreading the virus by personal hygiene, mask, physical spacing and self-isolation if having flu symptoms or a close contact become positive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cProtect the highly vulnerable- 60yrs old and above and those having chronic diseases like heart disease, high blood pressure, asthma, diabetes, cancer &conditions affecting immune system.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also urges for the promotion of personal immunity by feeding on balanced diet of natural foods and avoid sugary drinks and foods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cRegularly take nutritional immune boosters (especially, if among vulnerable people); regularly do physical exercises- at least 30mins a day; sleep for at least 8hrs a day at regular times; stop smoking and reduce alcoholic drinks & avoid stressful situations,\u201d he advised.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
