Yesterday, Jinja High Court blocked Women Council elections that were supposed to be held today, Uganda Mirror Reports.<\/p>\n
The same injection blocked the upcoming Local Council I elections slated for next week.<\/p>\n
Allan Alibawani filed the application challenging the elections because some students are sitting for their Uganda advanced Certificate of Examination.<\/p>\n
Upon receiving the injunction, Electoral Commission Boss Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon said that they will honour the court order.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Electoral Commission, in compliance with two Court Orders issued by the High Court at Kampala, this 13th<\/sup> day of November 2017, and another one issued by the High Court at Jinja, this 13th<\/sup> day of November 2017, which are binding on the Electoral Commission, hereby informs the general public that the elections for Village Women Councils and Committees and Elections for Administrative Units (LC I & LC II) shall not be held as earlier scheduled,\u201d reads the statement issued by the EC boss.<\/p>\n Below is the full statement<\/strong><\/p>\n Suspension of Electoral Programme for Administrative Units (LC I & II) and Women Councils and Committees Elections, 2017 <\/em><\/p>\n The Electoral Commission, in compliance with two Court Orders issued by the High Court at Kampala, this 13′ day of November 2017, and another one issued by the High Co. at Jinja, this 13. day of November 2017, which are binding on the Electoral Commission, hereby informs the general public that the elections for Village Women Councils and Committees and Elections for Administrative Units (LC I & LC II) shall not be held as earlier scheduled.<\/p>\n Accordingly, the elections of Village Women Councils and Committees scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday 14.
