{"id":20469,"date":"2020-12-17T12:27:22","date_gmt":"2020-12-17T09:27:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/?p=20469"},"modified":"2020-12-17T12:27:44","modified_gmt":"2020-12-17T09:27:44","slug":"hotel-rwanda-hero-sues-greek-airline-for-aiding-kidnap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/index.php\/2020\/12\/17\/hotel-rwanda-hero-sues-greek-airline-for-aiding-kidnap\/","title":{"rendered":"Hotel Rwanda Hero Sues Greek Airline For &#8216;Aiding Kidnap&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A prominent critic of the Rwandan president who is in prison on terrorism charges says he is suing a Greek charter flight company for aiding his alleged kidnap and repatriation to Rwanda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Paul Rusesabagina &#8211; whose story during the 1994 genocide inspired the Hollywood film Hotel Rwanda &#8211; had been living in exile in the US and Belgium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He says in August he intended to visit Burundi for a speaking engagement but when he boarded a private flight in Dubai he was instead flown to Rwanda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A civil lawsuit filed in Texas alleges that the charter company, GainJet, agreed to facilitate the journey because of its close relationship with officials in Kigali.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A similar case is expected be lodged in Belgium where Mr Rusesabagina holds citizenship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">GainJet has not responded to the BBC\u2019s requests for comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>BBC News Africa<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A prominent critic of the Rwandan president who is in prison on terrorism charges says he is suing a Greek charter flight company for aiding his alleged kidnap and repatriation to Rwanda.
