President\nYoweri Museveni, who is also the NRM presidential candidate has said youth can\nonly become rich if they are engaged in wealth creation but with a proper\ncalculation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nNRM presidential flag bearer made the remarks during a meeting with youth leaders\nfrom Kigezi at Nshwere Primary School in Kiruhura District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\nwas born in Ntungamo and by 1966, I had started realizing there was a big\nproblem with our people who were nomads and used to move from one area to the\nother with their cattle. Their solution for diseases and pest was to run away\nfrom one place to the other with their livestock but in 1966 I held a meeting\nwith them and they understood the problem,\u201d Museveni said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen\nthey understood the problem, they stopped moving and copied what the government\nstock farm in Mbarara was doing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nPresident who was speaking in the local dialect told the youth leaders that in\norder to solve the problem of little incomes for their homesteads, they ought\nto answer three key questions that he said rotate around expenditure and\nincomes for the families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPoverty\nin your homes can be addressed by asking yourself how much your family\u2019s annual\nexpenditure is, which assets your family has and how to use those assets to\ngenerate more income than your expenditure.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According\nto Museveni the youths who are educated should help the illiterate people in\nthe villages understand these ideas so they can copy them, to move away from\nsubsistence production to commercial production, especially in agriculture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIf\nyou don\u2019t advise them on what to do, they will make many mistakes. They have\nfood and non -food needs but if they only work for their stomachs but forget\nthe pockets, how will they address the non- food needs,\u201d he wondered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nProper calculation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The\nPresident who occasionally paused mid-way his speech to ask some questions\nabout wealth creation to the youth leaders told them that they can only benefit\nfrom what they do if they do it with proper calculation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe\npeople here used to have local animals. Those cows have value but you need to\nbe with many cows like 1000 and you can sell like 200 per year to earn a lot of\nmoney out them. Because of this, I advised them to rear exotic breeds which\nrequire little space but give higher yields in form of milk. Animals like pigs\nand chicken don\u2019t require a big space,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Explaining\nthe four \u2013acre model that was introduced in the 1996 manifesto, Museveni told\nthe youth leaders that they can grow coffee on one acre and that it can fetch\nnot less than shs18 million but also has market everywhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe\nnumber of coffee bags bought on the international market increases day by day\nand if you grow them, you are assured of market. It is not like maize or sugarcanes whose\nmarkets on many occasions goes down.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The\nPresident noted that on the second acre, food can be grown whereas the third\nand fourth aces can be used for growing fruits and pasture for animals\nrespectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThis\nis the message you need to take to your villages and become change agents.
