The chairperson of Electoral Commission, Justice Simon Byabakama has accepted to meet with National Unity Platform (NUP) Presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine over campaign violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He however asked Bobi Wine to limit his team to 5 people adding that processions will not be allowed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bobi Wine on Tuesday suspended his campaigns, following after injuring of members of his campaign team and damage to his car in Jinja allegedly by security personnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police in Jinja city on Tuesday blocked National Unity Platform-NUP presidential flag bearer, Robert Kyagulanyi from holding a campaign rally at Budondo sub-county headquarters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier in the day, there was a heavy police and military deployment with several roadblocks leading to the sub county headquarters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Heavy deployment was also noticed along the source of the Nile Bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police was forced to fire tear gas and live bullets after Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine and his supporters refused to access Jinja city through the old bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
MP Zaake was left in shock after he was nearly hit by a bullet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The crowds however kept on increasing and security personnel fired live ammunition towards Kyagulanyi\u2019s vehicle deflating the tyres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kyagulanyi resolved to cancel his final campaign rally in Jinja on grounds that he lacked the transport means to access his supporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kyagulanyi told journalists that since he started his campaigns, security personnel have continued to harass him and the Electoral Commission has remained silent on the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Paul Bukenya, the acting EC spokesperson, Bobi Wine’s request has since been granted and will be making “a presentation on issues concerning the conduct of campaigns for Presidential Elections.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis request has been granted by the Returning Officer\/Chairperson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hon. Kyagulanyi is expected at the EC Head Office at 11am,\u201d Bukenya said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bobi Wine is expected to be accompanied by a team of five persons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After the meeting, both Bobi Wine and Byabakama will address the media on the outcome of their engagement and the way forward.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
