Makerere University Business School (MUBS) academic staff have threatened to lay down tools and promised not to give students examinations until their salary disparities endured for close to 10years are fully settled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The chairperson of Makerere University Academic Staff Association (MUASA) \u2013 MUBS, Brian Muyomba said that none of the staff will appear in the lecture rooms until their concern is addressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe the academic staff have taken a decision to lay down tools on this day 15th November 2020 until when the matter is settled. We have given enough time. We feel that we are not being given enough attention, the importance and priority that we deserve,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Muyomba said every academic staff at MUBS needs to be paid their rightful salary as per the public service pay structure for public universities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said initially, the staff had agreed not resume teaching however they postponed the lay down tool by a month with the hope that their issues will be solved within the period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The lecturers through their association also attacked the president for claiming that he improved teachers and lecturers\u2019 salaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe page 214 of the NRM manifesto indicates the salary structures for all public Universities but also listed as an achievement which is not true,\u201d said Edwin Nakapor, the association General Secretary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the staff are very angry, disappointed and frustrated over the issue that was mentioned as an achievement in the manifesto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the students starting exams on 23rd November this year, the lecturers said they will return to the lecture rooms only if their issue is amicably solved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are 500 lecturers at MUBS, of whom about 300 lecturers have salary disparities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the Ministry of Public Service pay structure for staff in public universities, every Professor is entitled to Shs15.6M, Associate Professor Shs14.8M, Senior Lecturer Shs9M and Lecturer supposed to earn Shs7.6M as gross pay.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
