Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) Presidential candidate, Rtd Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu has called upon the citizens to first scrutinise each candidate’s integrity in order to avoid self-seeking leaders come 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He made the remarks while speaking to the locals during his second day of campaigns in the slums of Makerere, Ssebina zone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Muntu said almost every politician wants to sell their candidature but what differentiates them is their integrity and intentions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere must be elimination of dictatorship and then a new group comes in to manage power differently. We don\u2019t want to repeat what has happened in 58 years where one group leaves power and then another one comes in promises to do better and does the same things like the one which it removed,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said that Kampala is the heart of the country and every challenge that the city faces has a direct effect to the rest of the parts of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSo many slams characterised by poor sanitation, poor planning causing delays in traffic, difficult environment of starting and sustaining businesses, poor health mainly due to poor housing are but some of the challenges we have to deal with as soon as we get to power come 2021,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He noted that there is need for mass transport systems in the city, supporting environment that would act as an enabler for small businesses; \u201cEspecially those in metal fabrications, processing and packaging, health insurance schemes, proper urban planning, recreation centres are but some of the things we shall fix when we get to power next year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Muntu said recreation centres are also very important adding that they will support innovations and create jobs for the many unemployed young people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFixing all these requires a disciplined team which ANT has. Two things have to be done simultaneously. Remove the regime, most fundamentally, choose a team that will deliver. Focusing on former alone is losing the point,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said that ANT has taken time to prepare itself and that it is ready to provide leadership that is value driven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are value a driven organisation and that’s what we want to plant in this country and I ask you to put your trust in me because I am sure that we can change this country,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He noted that since 1962, when Uganda got her Independence, the country has never had selfless leaders who care about the needs of the people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen we had chance to build strong institutions, to build functioning systems, we also had a chance to observe the principles of separation of powers but they completely failed because they are driven by greed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Muntu also mentioned the failed health system during the current leadership as another reason why President Museveni must go.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
