The Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Judith Nabakooba, has warned politicians more so the recently nominated candidates against conducting early campaigns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking to reporters over the weekend, Nabakooba urged all the aspirants to respect measures aimed at combating the spread of COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She called upon these aspirants to refrain from organising political rallies and processions until such a time when the Electoral Commission permits them to do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have observed that some of those who got nominated immediately took to the campaign trail addressing crowds and holding processions. First, I would like to inform all candidates and the general public that it is not yet time for campaigning,\u201d said Nabakooba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She explained that the Electoral Commission is currently working on a campaign road map that will act as a guide for all candidates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe campaign road map is expected to be released soon and candidates are therefore advised to wait for guidance from Electoral Commission. We are all aware that these elections are being guided by the existing COVID-19 guidelines,\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She said the guidelines strictly outlaw any activity that brings together crowds adding that most of the activities such as open public campaigns and processions are not acceptable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI therefore want to call upon all leaders to lead by example and avoid situations that put people\u2019s lives at risk. We must all understand that Uganda has surpassed the 10,000 mark in terms of confirmed cases,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nabakooba also urged each individual to take a personal decision and say no to COVID-19 noting that being safe and a responsible citizen is very important at the moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nabakooba also urged journalists to always ensure that they are well protected with masks or any other protective wear while carrying out their duties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She called upon all media houses to abide by the regulations issued by Uganda Communications Communication.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
