The Uganda National Examination Board executive secretary Daniel Odongo has said he is not aware of the intended reopening of any schools and has not set any plan for national examinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This comes after the Minister of Education Janet Kataha Museveni wrote to Finance Minister Matia Kasaija seeking the release of capitation grants to schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The focus will be on candidate classes to resume, for what would be a second term, on September 20, this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the minister, education authorities have therefore revised the academic year schedule to allow students to report for the \u2018second term this month\u2019, as part of the phased reopening of education institutions across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Equally, the senior presidential adviser on epidemics, Dr Monica Musenero also confirmed that the national task force and president Museveni agreed to reopen schools for finalists and candidate classes starting September 20th during their meeting held on September 1 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Academic Year was prematurely cut short on March 18, 2020, as a precautionary measure to control the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a result, over 15 million learners who are enrolled in schools at different education levels have been at home since the lockdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Around May, the government proposed to open up for candidate classes, however, the plan had not materialized to date with some voices asking the government to declare 2020 a dead year for education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Now, sources at the Education Ministry have intimated that the academic year clock will be rewound to second term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, the UNEB executive secretary Daniel Odongo told the media that they do not have an official communication so they cannot comment on whether UNEB will do exams or not until they receive communication from the president or the minister herself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
