The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Board of Directors has confirmed Abel Kagumire as the substantive Commissioner, Customs department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He replaces Dicksons Kateshumbwa who resigned in May to join politics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kagumire, a senior official at URA has been acting in the position for nearly three months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to an internal staff memo issued by the board secretary Ms Patience Rubagumya, the URA board held a special meeting on August 26 and interviewed candidates for the senior management positions in the Departments of Customs, Corporate Services and Domestic Taxes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe board has consequently made the following appointments; Abel Kagumire as Commissioner Customs, Richard Kariisa as Commissioner Corporate Services and John Katungwensi Tinka as Assistant Commissioner Large Taxpayer\u2019s Office,\u201d the board announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe candidates who were shortlisted for the position of AC HR, AC BP and AC Trade will be interviewed by the board of directors on Friday 28,2020 by order of the board,\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The tax body in June reshuffled over 200 members of the customs department in what is viewed as the organisation\u2019s start of a new era of efficiency and fighting corruption under Commissioner General John Musinguzi Rujoki.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
