Lt Gen. Henry Tumukunde has officially launched his executive committee, that will help him to run his pressure group, The Renew Uganda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The committee which will be chaired by Omar Kalinge Nyago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kalinge said the reason the committee has been set up is to show Ugandans that Gen Tumukunde is not alone in the presidential race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said that in times like these when he is facing arrests the organization’s activities should continue to run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u00a0In his address, the presidential hopeful Tumukunde, asked colleagues in the opposition to maintain the \u2018struggle\u2019 or else the country slides back into the situation that compelled him and other National Resistance Army fighters to fight in the 1981- 1986 bush war that brought President Museveni to power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe offered ourselves as a group and we are still on course. We are trying to make sure we deliver change the peaceful transition,\u201d Tumukunde said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said that the events that are unfolding in the country reminds him how people suffered in the early 80s. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIf this ceases to be, then we are returning to the 1980-1981 situation where a minister would be arrested on a roadblock in a government where you are serving. I think we need to be sensitive about our country\u2019s stability. We are very offended,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He further added that it’s absurd to see security agencies abusing\u00a0 and dehumanizing his rights towards the struggle to liberate the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI want to repeat one statement [saying] that we need to continue to give an impression to [voters that] of all of us who are players in this political scene, we stand an opportunity to campaign freely and be able to win an election,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Beatrice Kiraso, the chief of staff, Renewed Uganda, said the struggle of liberating Uganda is not for an individual. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“This is the struggle of a well organised team brought together by the aspiration to bring a peaceful change in Uganda’s governance,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She said their candidate faces uncertainty from the security agencies therefore most of the activities will be run in his absentia.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
