The\nSpeaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has directed that three MPs and two staff\nwho returned from Dubai, UAE be quarantined to avoid the spread of the\ncoronavirus to their colleagues and their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This\ndirective to MPs Kafeero Ssekitoleko of Nakifuma County, Cissy Namujju of Lwengo\nDistrict and Sempala Kigozi of Makindye followed concerns by some legislators\nthat the three declined to observe the mandatory 14-day quarantine as directed\nby the Ministry of Health upon their return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hon.\nJalia Bintu called for testing of all MPs and staff following allegations that\nsome MPs who had returned recently from abroad had accessed the Parliament building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\nwant to propose that all of us get tested so that the country can be reassured\nthat its representatives are secure. These MPs were in the canteen and touched\neverywhere. We are not sure if we are safe,\u201d said Jalia Bintu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kawempe\nNorth MP, Hon. Latif Ssebaggala said that such legislators were putting their\nown families at risk of infection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe need a directive to follow up all these\nMembers of Parliament and quarantine them by force,\u201d Ssebaggala said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kasilo\nCounty MP, Hon. Elijah Okupa said it was upon all Ugandans especially leaders\nto paint a good image of self-protection and protection of those people who\nsurround them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLast\nweek, our team from the Pan-African Parliament retuned on a Monday but one of\nthem, Hon. James Kakooza was here the following day to attend plenary and we\nhad to send him away,\u201d Okupa said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nlegislators also called for interventions in limiting access into the country\nthrough the porous borders and on Lakes Victoria and Albert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSecurity\npersonnel are saying they want to leave the islands simply because there are no\nmeasures by Government to protect them while they check people crossing by\nwater from Kenya,\u201d said Hon. George Abott Ouma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rukiga\nDistrict Woman MP, Hon. Caroline Kamusiime asked the security agencies to pay\nmore attention to small border areas between Rwanda and Uganda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nSpeaker revealed that four more members of the Committee on Health had been\nseconded to the National Taskforce to follow-up and oversee the work being done\nby the Health Ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThese MPs have registered your concerns and\nwill present them to the Health Ministry and other stakeholders at their next\nmeeting, so that they can be urgently addressed,\u201d said Kadaga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
