{"id":14471,"date":"2020-03-10T13:42:04","date_gmt":"2020-03-10T10:42:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/?p=14471"},"modified":"2020-03-10T13:42:07","modified_gmt":"2020-03-10T10:42:07","slug":"president-museveni-orders-withdrawal-of-the-health-insurance-bill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/index.php\/2020\/03\/10\/president-museveni-orders-withdrawal-of-the-health-insurance-bill\/","title":{"rendered":"President Museveni Orders Withdrawal of The Health Insurance Bill"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>President Yoweri Museveni has directed the Ministry of Health to recall the Health Insurance Bill currently before the Parliament&#8217;s Health Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sources within the ministry said\u00a0 that the president based his decision on the cost of implementing the insurance<br>The bill before parliament seeks to introduce 4% contribution monthly by all workers in formal sector and 1% by their employers to the national insurance policy.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sources with the ministry of health\u00a0 also told Ug mirror that the president was convinced by manufacturers under their umbrella organisation &#8220;the Uganda manufacturers Association&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These manufacturers told the president that introducing health insurance for workers in their factories will increase, the cost of production and in the end affect the economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0The bill further proposed an annual Shs100,000 payment by all workers in the formal sector.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, according to the president most of those are not\u00a0 in the money making economy and that&#8217;s mean, they can not afford paying for the insurance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, Dr. Obuku Ekwaro, a member of Uganda medical association said : &#8220;The production may be increased as an immediate stand because you are paying for\u00a0 the workers\u00a0 ,you paying premium for the workers.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Yoweri Museveni has directed the Ministry of Health to recall the Health Insurance Bill currently before the Parliament&#8217;s Health Committee.
