President Yoweri Museveni has directed the Ministry of Health to recall the Health Insurance Bill currently before the Parliament’s Health Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sources within the ministry said\u00a0 that the president based his decision on the cost of implementing the insurance
The bill before parliament seeks to introduce 4% contribution monthly by all workers in formal sector and 1% by their employers to the national insurance policy.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sources with the ministry of health\u00a0 also told Ug mirror that the president was convinced by manufacturers under their umbrella organisation “the Uganda manufacturers Association”\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These manufacturers told the president that introducing health insurance for workers in their factories will increase, the cost of production and in the end affect the economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u00a0The bill further proposed an annual Shs100,000 payment by all workers in the formal sector.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But, according to the president most of those are not\u00a0 in the money making economy and that’s mean, they can not afford paying for the insurance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Dr. Obuku Ekwaro, a member of Uganda medical association said : “The production may be increased as an immediate stand because you are paying for\u00a0 the workers\u00a0 ,you paying premium for the workers.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
