Speaker\nof Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, has commended the Missionary Sisters of the\nQueen of Apostles for supporting women in Jinja and promised to follow up\nsupport to the women groups in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nSpeaker observed that the Missionary Sisters had empowered many locals living\nin the slums whose needs she said were often not addressed by the local\ngovernment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Thank\nyou for filling the gap and helping Government to organize these communities. I\nwant you to send me the names of the women groups here so that they can benefit\nfrom specialized funding from Government,” said Kadaga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She\nmade the remarks while officiating at the Women’s Day celebrations in Masese,\nJinja, held at Mary Queen of the Apostles Secondary School on Saturday, 07\nMarch 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She\ntasked the Jinja district Town Clerk to create public awareness on funding\navailable from Government to parishes in Busoga which will enable residents\nimplement livelihood improvement projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Masese\nParish, like all others in Busoga, is entitled to Shs30 million and this money\nis coming here. Please arrange the leaders to assist the people to access that\nmoney,” Kadaga said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She\nalso commended the Missionary Sisters for providing skills to locals in Masese\nlike tailoring as well as promoting agriculture by providing seedlings and\nanimals for rearing; and encouraged them to train the communities in urban\nfarming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hon.\nPaul Mwiru (FDC, Jinja Municipality East) appreciated efforts of the Missionary\nSisters to provide platforms for women in the area to uplift themselves, and\nalso commended women in the communities for getting on board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“They\nhave endeavored to retool the fight for fairness and justice through activities\nthat uplift women, which gives them the zeal to push for a place at the high\ntables in society,” Mwiru said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jinja\ndistrict Mayor, Majidu Batambuze, emphasized the need to recognize and\nappreciate the role played by women in society, saying that fostering the girl\nchild and women at large will build the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“It\nis important that we play our part as far as women rights are concerned and\nmake sure they are not marginalized. I commend the Speaker for promoting women\nin Uganda,” said Batambuze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nSuperior General of the congregation of Missionary Sisters, Sr. Maria Goretti,\ncalled on Ugandans to work to improve situations of women by fighting existing\nstereotypes, adding that, “When given an opportunity, women can make a\ngreat change in society.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nnational celebrations of the International Women\u2019s Day will be celebrated in\nMbale under the theme: “Celebrating 25 years of the 1995 Constitution:\nMilestones on promoting gender equality and Women’s empowerment in\nUganda.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
