The\nPresident of the Republic of Uganda and Commander-in-Chief of the Uganda Peoples\u2019\nDefence Forces (UPDF), Gen Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has officiated at the\ncommissioning ceremony of Young Officer Cadets, at the Uganda Military Academy\nKabamba (UMAK) in Mubende District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nYoung Officer Course Intake 04 2019\/2020, had a total of 613 Young Officer trainees\nwho trained at both UMAK (343) and Bihanga Training School (270), while two\nofficer cadets were trained in Kenya and the Royal Military Academy Sandhust in\nthe UK. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Twenty\n(20) Pilot Cadets from UPDF Air Force College were also commissioned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They\nwere all commissioned to the ranks of Second Lieutenant and Lieutenant\nrespectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Museveni\ncongratulated the newly commissioned officers and cautioned them to observe\nboth military and personal discipline if they are to avoid career stagnation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He\napplauded the increased level of literacy in Uganda, promising that government\nwill tarmac roads inside both training schools and construct more dormitories\nto better the training environment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nPresident, however, warned the commissioned Officers against ill habits like\npromiscuity, alcoholism, smoking and obesity; saying these impact on the\nsoldiers\u2019 general performance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou\nbecome useful when healthy. Therefore, guard against Non Communicable\nDiseases,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On\ntraining, Museveni told the newly commissioned officers that this is the\nbeginning and urged them to read more and attend more courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nChief of Defence Forces Gen David Muhoozi said that the event is one of the\nfruits from the strategic guidance that intends to boost other units and\nformations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He\nimplored the young officers to remain loyal, serve diligently, maintain their\nhealth and discipline so as to preserve a professional force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brig\nCharles M Byaruhanga, the Commandant of UMAK, informed that the trainees were\ndrawn from the UPDF in-service soldiers majority of whom were senior Non\nCommissioned Officers (SNCOs) commanding field subunits. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He\nadded that the six months training equipped trainees with basic military skills\nand knowledge. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He\ncongratulated trainees for completing the course and implored them to keep\ntheir oath of allegiance through dedication and integrity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lt\nJuliet Kagoya and 2Lt Abel Rwakabaka were the best trainees overall, most\ndisciplined female trainee was Lt Victoria Munaaba, best in field was 2Lt\nDonald Kanuma, and best in academics was 2Lt John Kageni. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
