The\nUganda Land Commission has asked for an additional Shs100billion to be able to\naid its mandate of protecting government land. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Commission\nchairperson, Beatrice Byenkya points out that the money allocated to them is\ninsufficient to hire staff to carry out the duties of the commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The\nmoney that is being disseminated to the commission does not match with the\nresponsibilities,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Byenkya\nalso pointed out that the money allocated to the commission is too insufficient\nto hire staff to carry out the duties of the commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The\npersonnel that we have are very few on the ground, on the behalf of government\nwe are supposed to monitor and do everything,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She\nalso accused government officials of being among the predators who grab and\nsteal government land in different parts of the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Byenkya\nsaid the growing vice of government officials grabbing government land is too\nhigh in the country therefore there is need for the immediate action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She\nsaid that it is unfortunate to see public servants actively breaking the law\ninstead of giving protection to government property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The\ncadres of government are not really carrying out their responsibilities to keep\nwhatever it is in their custody. What type leaders are we? because we are\nsupposed to be leaders by example and the common person is supposed to look at\nus,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She\nsaid the act of stealing government land \nleaves the country in the worrying state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She\nfurther noted that to streamline the activities in Uganda Land Commission,\nthere shall be inspection of government land across the country to ascertain its\nfitness of the intended purpose and the agreement in terms of usage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Failure\nto inspect the land, we have found that the commission sometimes gives out the\nwetlands, so inspection is key as far as the Uganda Land Commission is\nconcerned, you get the application, you read through before you say yes or no,\nyou should inspect,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
