Speaker\nRebecca Kadaga has highlighted the need for a helicopter for Parliament, which\nshe said will facilitate oversight visits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kadaga\nwas speaking at a thanksgiving for new State Minister for Economic Monitoring in\nthe Office of the President, Hon Molly Nawe Kamukama.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nSpeaker\u2019s itinerary was disrupted after a privately charted helicopter lost\ntrack while airborne, landing in Mubende instead of Kazo, its intended\ndestination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kadaga\nsaid the private helicopter had to be used since the army and police choppers\nare deployed to fight against desert locusts that have hit North Eastern\nUganda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou\nknow I have delayed because we normally use the army or police helicopters; but\nsince they are being used to fight the desert locusts, we had to use a\nprivately chattered helicopter that instead landed us in Mubende,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She\nthen prodded Parliament Commissioner, Hon Arinaitwe Rwakajara, also present at\nthe function, to pursue the idea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026the\nissue of the plane; I hope Hon Rwakajara is listening,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Financial\nconstraints on the part of the Parliamentary Commission have seen the shelving\nof the idea to procure a chopper for ease of the principles\u2019 travel in the\ncountry-side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nSpeaker appreciated President Museveni for promoting Kamukama from civil\nservice right into Cabinet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\nthank the President for elevating Hon Kamukama from being a civil servant who\nis given directives to now a decision maker who will be consulted before\ndecisions are made,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kadaga\nasked young Ugandans to emulate Kamukama\u2019s example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\nhave looked at Molly\u2019s CV\u2026she was an ordinary person but has succeeded; I want\nour children to use her as an example to believe in themselves that they can\nalso succeed,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kadaga\npromised to support Kazo, a new District curved out of Kiruhura, to access\nroads equipment, get seed schools and elevate the current Kazo Health Centre IV\nto a hospital in line with government policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Minister\nKamukama, formerly President Museveni\u2019s Principal Private Secretary, was named\nMinister in a December 2019 Cabinet reshuffle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\nappreciate President Museveni for appointing me Minister; I thank him for\ntaking care of me,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nfunction was attended by dignitaries from the judiciary, diplomatic corps and\nhigh power delegations from neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and\nKenya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ministers\nWilson Muruli Mukasa (Public Service), Ernest Kiiza (Bunyoro Affairs), Baltazar\nKasirivu Atwooki (Vice President\u2019s Office), Grace Kwiyucwiny (Northern Uganda)\nand Beatrice Atim Anywar (Environment) were in attendance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
