The\nministry of Gender Labour and Social development has suspended 6 labour export\nfirms for failure to comply with the required regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In\na letter signed by ministry of Gender Permanent Secretary Mr. James Ebitu, he\nstresses that the banned Labour export firms have been charging illegal fees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Below\nis a full letter from the Permanent Secretary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
1. You will recall that 1\naddressed you on 4February 2020 as a response to a number of complaints we\nreceive, and also read in the press and on social media, regarding the\nunscrupulous action of charging of illegal registration and placement fees by\nlicensed recruitment agencies. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n 2. I informed you that\nRegulation 29(1) of the Employment (Recruitment of Uganda Migrant Workers\nAbroad) Regulations, 2005 limits the chargeable administration tees to Fifty\nthousand shillings only (UGX 50,0001=). Regulation 29(2) provides that any\nfurther placement fees must be approved by the Administration, which is our\nMinistry. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n 3. In addition, Regulation 29(3)\nprovides that placement fees shall be collected from a Ugandan Migrant worker\nonly after he or she has signed the employment contract. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n 4. I also informed you that we\nhad written to all recruitment agencies giving them two weeks to refund the\nsaid fees by the 171 day of February 2020. We also warned them that failure to\ndo no would lead to immediate suspension of a company’s license. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n 5. Unfortunately a number of\ncompanies did not comply with the said directive, and have failed to pay back\nthese monies. As of midnight yesterday (17. February 2020), the following five\n(5) companies had not complied: – <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n i. Middle East Consultants <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n ii. Elite Placement Consulting <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n iii. Eagle Supervision <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n iv. Elite Winners Agency <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n v. Spotlight International <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n vi. High Ground International\nLtd<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n 6. Consequent to the above,\nthese companies have been suspended, and have been directed to desist from any\nacts of labour externalization as from 18. February 2020. Anyone dealing with\nthem does so at his\/her own risk. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n 7. We thank those companies that\nare compliant, and support our noble objective of ensuring that migration for\nworkers abroad is safe, orderly, regular, productive and dignified. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n I thank you.
