{"id":14221,"date":"2020-02-27T14:44:40","date_gmt":"2020-02-27T11:44:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/?p=14221"},"modified":"2020-02-27T14:44:42","modified_gmt":"2020-02-27T11:44:42","slug":"police-officers-trained-in-countering-money-laundering-financial-crimes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/index.php\/2020\/02\/27\/police-officers-trained-in-countering-money-laundering-financial-crimes\/","title":{"rendered":"Police Officers Trained In Countering Money Laundering, Financial Crimes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>53\nPolice officers drawn from Kampala Metropolitan and CID headquarters, Kibuli\nhave today been trained in money laundering and financial crimes at CID\nheadquarters in Kibuli.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\ncourse is being facilitated by the Standard Chartered Bank<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During\nhis opening remarks, the deputy Director Human Resource Development SCP Felix\nNdyomugyenyi, noted that money laundering and financial crimes are global problems,\nposing big threats to the fight against crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\nsaid money laundering emanates from organized crime and that the two are always\nmentioned in the same breath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese\ncrimes have serious consequences on the country as it undermines the integrity\nof the financial system, distorts competition between businesses and\nentrepreneurs, rewards corruption and crime, damages the integrity of the\nentire society, undermines democracy and the rule of the law,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\nadded, \u201cBesides, it causes serious social and political costs when organized\ncrime gets involved in it by infiltration of financial institutions,\nacquisition of large sectors of the economy and bribery of public officials,\nadding that this kind of criminality must not be allowed to thrive under the\nwatchful eyes of law enforcement. It must be fought decisively. All financial\ncrimes you are investigating must have a component of money laundering since\nnearly all the moneys stolen or embezzled end up being laundered into other\nactivities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\nurged the participants to take the course seriously and put the knowledge and\nskills acquired into good use while investigating these cases and not to be\npart of the problem through corruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Albert\nSaltson, the chief executive officer, Standard Chartered Bank said the bank\nwill do more training to equip police detectives with more knowledge and skills\nin handling fraud related cases.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>53 Police officers drawn from Kampala Metropolitan and CID headquarters, Kibuli have today been trained in money laundering and financial crimes at CID headquarters in Kibuli.
