{"id":14071,"date":"2020-02-20T13:14:00","date_gmt":"2020-02-20T10:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/?p=14071"},"modified":"2020-02-20T13:14:03","modified_gmt":"2020-02-20T10:14:03","slug":"makereres-stella-nyanzi-finally-set-free","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/index.php\/2020\/02\/20\/makereres-stella-nyanzi-finally-set-free\/","title":{"rendered":"Makerere&#8217;s Stella Nyanzi Finally Set Free"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Makerere&#8217;s Dr. Stella Nyanzi, has yet seen another win as court sets her free from charges of harassing the person of the President.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Justice Peter Adonyo of the High Court has today quashed the conviction against Dr. Stella Nyanzi which was related to cyber-harassment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Court ordered that Nyanzi should be released immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nyanzi has been in jail since November 2018 in a case in which she was accused of cyber harassment and offensive communication against President Museveni and his mother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her lawyers challenged the verdict of Grade one magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu on grounds that their client was not accorded a fair hearing. Justice Adonyo ruled that the Buganda Road Court did not aid witnesses to be brought to court and therefore found its ruling \u2018disturbing.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On 3rd August, Nyanzi  bared her breasts and screamed obscenities in protest as a magistrate sentenced her to 18 months&#8217; prison on controversial\u00a0charges\u00a0of &#8220;harassing&#8221; President Yoweri Museveni. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Makerere&#8217;s Dr. Stella Nyanzi, has yet seen another win as court sets her free from charges of harassing the person of the President.
