The first lady also the minister of education and Sports Janet Kataha Museveni has has revealed that she will\u00a0 appear before the parliament on the issues regarding the implementation of the lower\u00a0\u00a0Secondary level Curriculum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Her\u00a0 revelation follows the summon that was issued on Thursday by Speaker of parliament\u00a0 after the Leader of opposition in the institution raised a concern on cabinet implementing the new O\u2019Level curriculum despite the issues raised by the MPs against it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This revelation was made during closure of the two-day selection exercise for Senior Five students at the Uganda Manufacturers\u2019 Association (UMA) hall in Lugogo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Recently, the Bududiri West MP, Hon Nandala Mafabi raised a motion to cease the implementation of the new curriculum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This suggestion was made with a motive to allow for more consultation and training of teachers.
\u00a0He also prayed that the government provides the House with a proper statement on the implementation of the changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some\u00a0 members Of Parliament wondered how the government, through the National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC), could roll out the curriculum without textbooks to aid the teaching and learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However while addressing the media this week, the NCDC Director, said the government has distributed textbooks to different schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She further said, “there is no rush\u00a0 at all, we have been preparing and planning and indeed we have the documentations that prepare us to go there and that is why when the time came, we went to train teachers and the teacher’s training is going to be continuous.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She also dismissed claims by members of parliament that there was insufficient preparation and consultation on the curriculum.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She also said parliament was well acquainted with all the processes\u00a0 because it appropriated 3 billion shillings towards the lower secondary curriculum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However recently,during the release of UNEB, Mrs Museveni defended her Ministry\u2019s stand by stating the government had had enough time considering the curriculum had been halted before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This week , the cabinet cleared the Ministry of Education to continue with the implementation of the revised lower secondary curriculum despite Parliament\u2019s resolution to halt it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
