The National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) has revealed it’s readiness\u00a0\u00a0to roll out the new lower secondary school curriculum, starting next week.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Addressing the media, the NCDC Director, said the training and monitoring of the curriculum will be continuous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“There is no rush\u00a0 at all, we have been preparing and planning and indeed we have the documentations that prepare us to go there and that is why when the time came, we went to train teachers and the teacher’s training is going to be continuous,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Baguma also dismissed claims by members of parliament that there was insufficient preparation and consultation on the curriculum.\u00a0She explained that parliament resolutions is only advisory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The executive is governed by the cabinet and others, parliament is advisory and it has advised and we have taken the advice,” she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She said parliament was well acquainted with all the processes\u00a0 because it appropriated 3 billion shillings towards the lower secondary curriculum.\u00a0She also revealed that the National curriculum development centre budget for implementation is short by 29 million shillings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Under the new curriculum, the number of subject being taken has been reduced from 41 to 21 in senior one.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Apart from extending the training period of teachers, learning has to implement the new curriculum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
