Police have passed strict regulations against the the use of sirens by non-authorized vehicles.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While addressing the media on Wednesday in Kampala, the deputy police spokesperson Polly\u00a0 Namaye said that the force has\u00a0also outlawed use of bright lights similar to those used by emergency vehicles and the obscuring of number plates.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Namaye, the measures are meant to improve orderliness and safety on the roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She explained that the force noticed the growing concerns of increased indiscipline among motorists exhibited through the use of sirens on an unauthorized vehicles, use of colored lights, and increased violation of rules governing the use of registration number plates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Those who will be found with sirens on vehicles unauthorised and those who will be found with coloured lights like blue, red and you think it’s an emergency vehicle, and those who will be found with number plates concealed or obscured will definitely face the law,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The acting director of traffic police Bazil Mugisha has reiterated that the enforcement of traffic regulations emphasizing the move to start detaining offenders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\u00a0 said it’s the mandate of the traffic police to keep law and order urging all the drivers to heed to the call.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also said that police is willing to step up and take the action against\u00a0 such unbecoming hooliganism among drivers. He further urged the road users to revisit the laws and regulations to avoid any inconveniences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“You are taken through lessons in a driving school particular to covering the highway code. I am appealing to all road users especially drivers to go back to their driving schools notes, he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also cautioned drivers who stay on roads without number plates noting that such as act is unacceptable.\u00a0He mentioned government officials who are given\u00a0right of way regulating the city socialites who have been always caused commotion on the different roads.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The laws are very clear, government officials who are allowed to move on the road by the law who can once in while violate, are clearly spelt out in the regulations that’s is the president, vice president, the speaker, the deputy, the Chief Justice and the deputy any other person who would wish to be cleared the road, you have to apply to the inspector general of police who would give you a police vehicle,” he said.\u00a0
