President Museveni has been given the African Leadership Peace Award. Museveni who’s in London this week to attend the UK-Africa Investment Summit 2020 received the award on Tuesday at the Royal Geographical Society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I thank the African Leadership Magazine that gave me the African Leadership Peace Award yesterday at the Royal Geographical Society in London. Africa will continue to rise and shine, once we diagnose its problems correctly and offer appropriate prescription,†Mr Museveni posted on his social media platforms on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his keynote speech which based on the theme “Harnessing Africa’s Potential: The Uganda Example,†he said he has used the 60 years he has spent in leadership roles trying to transform the traditional life-style of the Ugandans (from ‘Obujajja’ to modernity).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He, however, admits he could not have made any impact without the help of others in the struggle some of whom are long gone among them; Raiti Omongin, Natolo-Masaba, Martin Mwesiga, and Joy Mirembe who he paid tributes too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He meanwhile maintained that the economy in Uganda and Africa at large will not get modernized if the problem of infrastructure is not solved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We cannot modernize the economy for instance, if we do not solve the problem of infrastructure. High electricity costs, high transport costs, etc., can not allow the economy to grow. By addressing the diagnosis issues (ideology and prescription) and by addressing the bottlenecks, the economy of Uganda has been able to grow at the rate of 6.3% per annum. This was even before we addressed some of the bottlenecks. Now that we are addressing almost all the bottlenecks, the economy will grow faster and transform completely,†he said.
