The Executive Director of UNAIDs, Winnie\nByanyima, has thanked President Museveni for his immense contribution in the\nHIV\/Aids fight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At a meeting at State House Entebbe today, Byanyima saluted and congratulated the President for his efforts in fighting HIV \/AIDS and driving the awareness campaign in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Byanyima, giving an overview of the state of\naffairs in the HIV\/Aids fight, told the President that efforts should be placed\non messages of prevention if the war against the pandemic is to won.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Prevention has not had much attention.\nIt needs to be boosted. For example there are medicines that can be taken when\nat high risk of infection. Not enough people know about this,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She added that focus could also be placed on\nspecific groups that are at high risk of infection or transmission like sexual\nminorities and commercial sex workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“It is important for health service\nproviders to do their part and attend to these minorities without being judgmental.\nMoralising should be left to moralists,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Byanyima, who was accompanied by the UNAIDs\ncountry director, Karusa Kirangu, briefed President Museveni on the upcoming\nInternational Conference on AIDs and Sexually Transmitted Infections in Africa\n(ICASA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Uganda won the rights to host the 21st edition\nof International Conference on AIDs and Sexually Transmitted Infections in Africa,\nwhich will take place next year, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Museveni welcomed and thanked\nByanyima and her delegation for supporting preparations for the upcoming\nconference. He pledged government\u2019s support in organising the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The President also said the laws and\nregulations guiding the operations of the Uganda Aids Commission would be\nreviewed to ensure smooth and effective operations at the agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
