The\nPolice has revealed that phase two of CCTV cameras will be installed along\nhighways, all municipalities and all other major towns including boarders of\nKatuna, Malaba, Busia among others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
While\naddressing the media at the police headquarters in Naguru on Monday, the\nforce’s spokesperson Fred Enanga said this second phase of the exercise is\nexpected to commence as soon as possible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nnoted that the force will work with National Information Technology NITA Uganda\nto carry out the activity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nsaid the force has identified crime prone areas across different parts of the\ncountry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“So\nfar we have strategically identified 2319 sites where surveillance cameras are\nsupposed to be installed, we shall be installing automatic number plate\nrecognition cameras and then 20 facial recognition cameras and out of these we\nhave 107 Stations,”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nnoted that the phase one of these CCTV cameras has greatly helped in the\nfighting crimes in the urban areas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We\nbelieve this is going to be very helpful, already in Kampala metropolitan where\nthe phase one was installed, we can already see that there is much improvement\nin crime and safety,” he said <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nsaid the additional cameras countrywide will also act as a deterrent to\ncriminals and help to improve the quality of lives within the communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Kisoro,\nMityana, Mubende, Kamuli and Rukungiri, so these crucial areas that don’t have\nback bond infrastructure from NITA Uganda, we are going to use stand-alone\nnetworks in those areas so that CCTV cameras can transmit to the command centre\nbased on the stand alone network until when it gets coverage from NITA\nUganda,” he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nalso noted that the force will set CCTV monitoring centres at 107 police\nstations across the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
