The\nPeople\u2019s Government has set February as the month of submitting a petition to\nthe International Criminal Court (ICC) against president Museveni. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\npetition accuses president Museveni and his government of alleged human rights\nabuse and violations among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Addressing\nthe media on Wednesday, the Vice President of the People\u2019s Government, Erias\nLukwago explained their stand on the matter noting that they will be ready by\nthe end of this month. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lukwago\nsaid that they are still collecting signatures from Ugandans to support their\npetition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Things\nwhich are on the ground, is collecting the signatures and also trying to put\ntogether the evidence. We have faced a lot of harassment and frustration from\nthe security agencies,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nalso said the pressure group will be holding sensitisation across the country\nto educate the masses about the task ahead of them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\ntold the media that 80 lawyers will be dispersed across the country to educate\nthe people about their fundamental rights as citizens. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“To\norganise regional assemblies or meetings to get Ugandans understand what is\ngoing on in this struggle specifically the petition we are filing,” he\nsaid. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nsaid they are working around the clock to ensure that that the exercise of piecing\ntogether the evidence and additional signatures is complete by the end of this\nmonth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On\nthe issue of banning private meetings in homes as was communicated by the\npolice, Lukwago said the Public Order Management Act doesn’t confer any powers\nto prohibit rather regulate public gatherings which have nothing to do with\nprivate homes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“This\ndirective about people’s home, we are going to have these meetings both in public\nand our private places, even our own homes; now, let’s see how Mr Enanga, Mr\nOchola or Muzeyi Sabiti will be invading homes and teargassing them,” he\nsaid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nmission in starting the petition against President Museveni was to fulfil\nArticle 3 of the constitution of the Republic of Uganda and to prosecute the\nhead of state and his implicated officials on crimes against humanity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
