The leading opposition party in Uganda,\u00a0Forum For Democratic Change (FDC) has cautioned\u00a0President Museveni against\u00a0 wasting tax payer’s\u00a0money during his great trek walk code was named\u00a0 \u201cAfrica Kwetu\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Museveni is currently leading veterans, youth and well-wishers in a 60mile (100km) symbolic trek from Galamba in Wakiso District to Birembo in Kibaale District to celebrate freedom fighters’ heroic sacrifices for patriotism. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
While addressing the media at the party headquarters on Monday, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, the party’s spokesperson said Uganda is greatly counting financial losses\u00a0for all the period president Museveni is spending on the walk.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He further described this planned six-day walk as a wasteful expenditure financing an individuals physical exercise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We would be spending for example 2.4 billion of this borrowed money, everyday Museveni undertakes physical exercises. This is the money spent to maintain\u00a0people who are securing him\u00a0and pay allowances of all manners of staff,” he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ssemujju said the walk is a waste of time and government resources which has made the government officials\u00a0 to abandon their important work.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“A lot of money is spent on those who are cheering him up. You have seen them, they have abandoned work, many of them are there wasting time,” he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also added that the walk is intended to rally support for President Museveni ahead of 2021 general elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ssemujju also called for the participation of all eminent leaders to enable the process of a joint candidate before 2021 general elections.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The proposal in the FDC is that first we sit together and select people who are not interested in standing for president and then we assign them with the responsibility of guiding the political parties and the opposition on how they can arrive on a joint candidate at all levels,” he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
