Kyadondo\nEast Member of parliament Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine is set to\nstart his presidential bid consultations today but Gayaza parish grounds where\nhe is supposed to kick off the meetings, has been cordoned off by police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It\nhas also been reported that Police ordered tent and music service providers off\nthe grounds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police\nalso argues the grounds are open and consultations should be in closed spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In\nanother development, two People power coordinators have arrested and they\ninclude Kasangati mayor who heads Bobi Wine\u2019s elections teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
People\nPower yesterday claimed that some hotel and venue owners have declined to host\nthem claiming they have been intimidated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A\nweek ago, the Electoral Commission gave Bobi Wine permission to carry on with\nhis nationwide consultations in preparation for 2021 general elections. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
However,\nthe commission put conditions to the exercise which include informing the\npolice as required by public order management act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking\nto the spokesperson of the pressure group, Joel Ssenyonyi over the weekend said\nthat they are set for the launch of the consultations today beginning with\nKyadondo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“On\nMonday at 10:00am, we shall be in the Kyadondo and that is where we are going\nto begin from. We have notified police, we have also notified all the local\nauthorities in the places we are going to and we are set,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nalso said that some hotels and venue owners had refused to host them claiming\nthat they have been intimidated by the security forces. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Some\nof them had actually agreed to give us those spaces and we had even deposited\nsome money to book the spaces and then security forces went there and intimated\nthose people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However,\nthe police spokesperson Fred Enanga said Bobi wine is yet to complete all the\nrequirements before he is allowed to proceed with his consultations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The\nElectoral Commission indicated to them that consultations are not public\nrallies, they should get permission from the venue owners,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nnoted that the pressure group other than the letter that was shown to the\nforce, People Power should get supporting attachments from the owners of the\nvenues.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
