President Yoweri Museveni has\ncontinued with the nearly 200-Km Great Trek \u2013 codenamed “Africa\nKwetu” \u2013 from Bukatira village in Nakaseke District with a call upon the\nNational Resistance Movement Secretariat to mobilize the masses at the\ngrass-root level based on shared responsibility approach on the way forward\nafter the liberation struggle was won by the Movement in 1986.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The President was addressing the\nTrekkers at Bukatira Campsite in Semuto, Nakaseke District before they set off\ntoday in the morning on the second day of the Trek that kicked off yesterday at\nGaramba in Wakiso District. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today\u2019s 38-Km Trek was slated to pass\nthrough Kilema, Kadunda, Kakinga on to Masileba connecting the districts of\nNakaseke and Kiboga in Central Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr. Museveni who advocated for shared\nresponsibilities among political leaders at all levels in mass mobilization,\nsaid that whatever action is taken for national development, it must be put on\nrecord in order to ensure that the truth and facts remain on ground for verification\npurposes by government planning organs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his remarks following narrations\nby retired and serving Senior Army Officers on the liberation struggle, President\nMuseveni commended the conduct and discipline that the Army has always\nexhibited. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Conduct, discipline and zeal to\nfight for freedom was the epicentre of the bush war in 1981 to 1982 aiming at\nsuccess till when Obote forces launched a big offensive and for lack of weapons\nwe withdrew to Singo,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that later, the then NRA forces established a centre of gravity in Masindi, Galamba and Kabamba to become a much more stronger force by 1984. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He, therefore, appealed to the Uganda Armed Forces to maintain discipline just like the then NRA forces led by example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTo see a soldier frightening and\nthreatening people is not good. Set the gun to an enemy not to the wananchi,\u201d\nhe said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr. Museveni also emphasized the five\nkey strategies for national development as a peaceful nation, upholding the\nnational campaign for household income that should not be mixed with national\nplans for infrastructure development, emphasizing free education for children\nfrom poor families, managing government drugs in medical centres and dissolving\nland ownership issues between landlords and squatters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He called for total support by the\npeople of Uganda to ensure that government implements and accomplishes the\ncommitments he had enumerated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Retired and Senior Army Officers\nshared with the Trekkers the NRA bush war experiences as well as the challenges\nand hurdles the force went through. Retired Brig. Gen. Julius Chihandae, Maj.\nGen. Stephen Kashaka, Col. Jaffari Kasirye Kasirivu, and Lt. Gen. Proscovia\nNalweyiso appealed to the Bazzukulu to take the lead in shaping a better Uganda\nfor greater heights. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maj. Gen. Kashaka expressed\ngratification that some of the then Kadogo soldiers that he had recruited\nduring the bush war, are serving very well as senior Army Officers. \n\nNakaseke District\nWomen MP, Hon. Sarah Najjuma, reported that her area still needs support on\nroads\u2019 construction and youth skilling and training, among other development\nprogrammes.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
