The\nUganda Wildlife authority has started fencing off the borders of the Murchison\nNational park where human settlements are close to wildlife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
State\nMinister for tourism Godfrey Kiwanda who was in Oyam district to mitigate the\nhuman-animal conflict said the Wild Life Authority has begun putting a 10-kilometre\nfence at borders of human settlement in Juma parish and the park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We\nhave been having issues of human life conflicts, our elephants have been\nterrorising people in this area. We have lost very many people in Oyam\ndistrict,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nnoted that elephants and buffalos that escape out of Murchison falls national\npark have greatly affected the lives of people in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“As\nthe ministry, we are now devising means and one of the means is to put up\nelectric fence. We also want to sensitize people about the new law which is\ncoming on compensation,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kiwanda\nnoted that new law on compensation will be operational by June next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“By\nJuly next year next year, next financial year. We shall be compensating people\nwhose crops have been destroyed and those who have lost their dear ones,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nalso said that Oyam district received over Shs500million and this financial\nyear, it received like Shs1billion which will be helping in the compensation\nprocess.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
