President Yoweri Museveni has praised the\nleadership of Kampala-based Kyambogo University for the new innovations\nexhibited at the stalls at today\u2019s graduation ceremony in the University Campus\ndescribing them as a renaissance that Africa needs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn Kyambogo you are beginning to wake up. There is\nactually renaissance at Kyambogo. Kyambogo has got out of Kulambala (sleep),\u201d\nhe observed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The President, who is the Visitor of the University, was today the Chief Guest at the 16th<\/sup> graduation ceremony of the University. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The 3-days\u2019 function will see 8,892 graduands (4,877 male and 4,015 female) get their Master\u2019s and Bachelor\u2019s Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates in various fields. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Two graduands, Bamuwamye Michael and Gafuma Samuel, obtained their PhDs in Food Technology while 187 graduands obtained 1st<\/sup> class degrees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n President Museveni who was visibly excited about\nthe achievements told the gathering that he saw in the stalls computerized\nweaving loom, the making of cloth using banana fibres, telecommunications\nengineering, leather tanning, ceramics and the processing of iron ore. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Another exhibition at the stalls included food\ntechnology where banana starch is used for making bread, the making of\nbiomedical equipment and the technology of pumping out oil from the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The President congratulated graduands upon their\nachievements and called on them to reinvent themselves in order to remain\nrelevant focusing on the needs of the people. He urged them to join and be part\nof the development journey of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n President Museveni also encouraged graduands to be\npatriotic disciplined and always have a positive attitude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cBe men and women of intelligence and character,\u201d\nhe counseled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The President earlier expressed his gratitude to\nlearn that for the first time Kyambogo University has produced PHD holders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThis is a sign that the young University is\nattaining maturity,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He congratulated the Chancellor of the University\nProfessor John Sebuwufu for being a distinguished leader in the higher\nEducation management expressing his optimism that the University will continue\nto grow under the leadership of Professor Sebuwufu..<\/p>\n\n\n\n The President also congratulated the Chairperson of\nthe Universiry Council Professor John Okedi and team for their contribution in\noverseeing the operations of the University and guiding the management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He further commended the management led by\nProfessor Katunguka for stabilizing and developing the University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe teams of Katunguka, Okedi and Sebuwufu are the\nright teams to steer the University out of turbulence. Thank you for the job\nwell done,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The President was pleased to note that the\nUniversity had grown its programs in line with government\u2019s strategy of\nproviding the human capital to transform the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He also pointed out that Kyambogo has played a leading role in providing teacher education at all grades in the whole country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n He said the NRM government had for the last 3 decades guided Ugandas\u2019 successful journey in 3 areas of economic recovery, poverty eradication and socio-economic transformation of the people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n President Museveni later commended parents and\nguardians of the students for entrusting their children to the University and for\npaying their tuition fees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThank you for making a wise investment in the\neducation of your children,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n President Museveni however reminded students of the\nUniversity that the facility is a place for studying not for rioting adding that\nit was a centre for learning, discussion, intellectuality and civilization but\nnot a centre of bad manners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Minister of State for Higher Education Hon.
