The\nHoima Chief Magistrate Moses Kagoda Ntende has decried the rate at which Oil\nProjects are triggering gross Human Rights violations in Hoima Magisterial\narea. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking\nduring a meeting on Human Rights at Kikuube District Headquarters, Kagoda said\nmost of the cases in Hoima Magisterial Area are related to Oil discovery. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nnoted that cases like land grabbing are most predominant as residents\nstrategically position themselves in areas where they hope to reap huge oil\ncompensation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Families\nare getting involved in fighting for that money they are receiving out of\ncompensation even some people laying claims over land which is not theirs\nbecause they suspect that money is going to come out of that,” he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nnoted that Children\u2019s rights are being abused whereby some of these children\nare made to over work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCutting\nsugarcane, doing all these works and they are dropping out of school. There are\nland conflicts that are emerging because of these compensations; the rich and\nthe speculators are grabbing land from people,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hope\nBagota, Human Rights officer, Western Uganda said they have realised there is\nforced and early marriages in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Children\nare dropping out of school. So together with different stake holders as Uganda Human\nRights Commission, we shall come up with ways to solve these problems and sensitize the\nparents and the children about their rights,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
