On\nSunday, 24th November marked one year since MV Templar capsized on Lake\nVictoria about 500 metres away at Mutima beach in Mukono district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nboat, which was carrying nearly 100 revellers heading to K palm beach capsized\nafter developing mechanical problems and 31 people lost their lives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some\nof the survivors and residents of the community around the accident site\nconverged at Mutima beach over the weekend to pray for those who lost their\nlives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Arnold\nSsimbwa, one of the survivors said: \u201cI went to the spot where the boat capsized\nand I paid my respects and I thought I had healed but when I came here, I\nactually broke down I could see things a fresh.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nsaid the experience he got from the incident made him to re-evaluate his life\nand now he is an advocate for safe water transport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPersonally,\nI am an ambassador of safe water that helps people to learn how to survive in\nwater in case of an accident. That is all i can do basing on what i passed\nthrough,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nnoted that despite of the fateful incident that took place last year, some\npeople were seen on the boat without life jackets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe\nonly new thing that i have seen that government promised to do is that the\nboats have number plates but i don\u2019t think they are in a better mechanical\ncondition. I have seen two people on the boat with life Jackets,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During\nthe prayers, the survivors also managed to get scholarships for the kids of the\nlate fisherman who died while trying to save lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe\nhave built the village church plus one classroom block and we have also managed\nto get scholarships for the two surviving kids for the late Owek for their\neducation,\u201d Francis Ssenkezi MV templar survivor said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nsaviours also dismissed that allegations that they had abandoned the locals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nprince of Buganda David Wasajja also survived the accident and together with\nhis wife joined other survivors to donate items to the families of people who\nsaved them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
